“Collaborations between Building Artisans:” NCPE Affiliate Session

Traditional building artisans are commonly identified with the crafts they practice yet their work is dependent on communication and teamwork with other specialists. Session participants will gain insight into how craftsman interact through a demonstration of stone carving and leaded glass repair entailed in the restoration of a quatrefoil window. Presented by Session Manager: Steven Hartley, Savannah Technical College and Simeon Warren, American College of the Building Arts. Meet at from Lucas Theater; participants will return to the Westin Hotel. This is a free program but registration is required. Congratulate this year’s NCPE/National Trust student speakers and meet other emerging scholars and preservation faculty from NCPE member institutions at the reception. The former armory for Savannah’s Volunteer Guard was designed by Bostonian William Preston and opened in 1892. When the university welcomed its first preservation students in 1979 the armory’s ballroom on the second floor had been reinvented as SCAD’s first library. Today it serves as the May Poetter Gallery and is used for important gatherings. This event is open to faculty and students attending the conference. Please wear your badge or bring your college I.D. and proof of age.
