Learning Lab: New Thinking, New Perspectives in Historic Preservation

Future preservation practitioners, selected competitively from today’s graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in the nation’s 59 academic historic preservation programs, share their visions on key issues facing the preservation movement. This session is the culmination of the NCPE student paper competition coordinated by Lauren Bricker.
Gothic Past Gothic Future: Educating Students to Design and Build a Medieval Window for the 21st Century
Time: 01:00pm – 04:00pm
Location: Washington National Cathedral
Over the last three years NCPE and its affiliated trade-based college programs have carried out a collaborative craft-based workshop at the National Trust Conference. This year the workshop will showcase an ongoing design build student project that uses the Bishops Eye Window of Lincoln Cathedral as its inspiration. Attendees will experience century-old building arts which are as relevant today as yesteryear. If you are interested in learning more about building trades or trades education this session is a must. Note: sessions will take place at the National Cathedral and require a 30-minute walk. All attendees will meet at the conference hotel before the session. This workshop is being coordinated by Simeon Warren of the American College of the Building Arts, a NCPE member program in Charleston, SC. The James Marston Fitch Award recognizes distinguished lifetime achievement by a noted educator in historic preservation.
